Gloria Jimenez

Gloria played for the Toledo Troopers as #71 for the 1972-1979 seasons. Initially her position was defensive tackle, but she also played the positions of middle linebacker, fullback, and tight end. She did all the extra-point and field goal kicking for the team. Gloria followed the example set by the males in her family by becoming a sports enthusiast. Her brothers were some of her most devoted fans, and before her football career ended, she had won more trophies than any of them. Her portrait in uniform was taken in the early part of her Troopers career, probably in 1972 or 1973.

The collection she loaned the Local History and Genealogy Department for digitization was extensive. Game programs, banquet programs, a playbook, and a renewal contract for one year are part of the many documents that are now part of our collection at Ohio Memory. There are also several personal items she loaned, like her helmet, game jersey, game socks, and cleats. A doll representing her in her Troopers uniform and a ceramic football bank were items that she was presented with at various end of season banquet ceremonies.
